Take the American Medicine Chest Challenge on Saturday, October 29th.
Prescription drug abuse among teens is on the rise. That's why our community is participating in the American Medicine Chest Challenge. Between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 29th.
The Town of Mamaroneck Police Department, 740 W. Boston Post Road, Mamaroneck, will serve as the tri-municipal collection site for unused or expired medicines. So take inventory of your prescription and over the counter drugs. Lock your cabinet, use all medicines only as prescribed, and dispose of unused medicines properly. Most importantly, talk to your kids about the dangers of prescription drugs and how they can lead to addiction.

Teen Survey Results on Use of Drugs and Alcohol Released
The most recent drug and alcohol survey of Mamaroneck students was taken in spring of 2010. Some of the results were highlighted at a recent program at which MHS students discussed current trends and along with renowned drug and alcohol expert, Mike Nerney, discussed suggestions for parents who would like to prevent their children from using such harmful substances. The Mamaroneck School District issued a press release highlighting some of the recent survey results and on-going efforts to reduce underage drinking and drug use by teens in our community.
R.A.D.A.R. (Responsible Action: A Drug and Alcohol Resource)
Our Mission:
Larchmont-Mamaroneck RADAR (LM RADAR) is a community coalition committed to reducing the use of alcohol, drugs and other harmful substances by youth in our community. LM RADAR facilitates changing societal norms through the use of multiple research-based strategies to help our youth make healthy choices and avoid substance abuse.
Our Guiding Principles:
- Reducing substance use/abuse is a collective responsibility that is best addressed at the community level by changing the environment and community norms within which our youth make choices about tobacco, drinking, and drugs.
- The whole community must be engaged and feel ownership of the substance use problem. Only by working together toward a shared vision with a specific action plan can long-term change be achieved.
- Efforts must build on the many strengths of the community to reduce the risk factors and increase the protective factors related to substance use.
Our Members:
The Coalition includes over 60 members representing a growing and diverse group of community members, in order to affect multiple strategies over multiple settings:
